A.I. & MUSIC - THE ORIGINAL PROJECT IDEAS

My original idea for my Major Multimedia Project was to explore the concept of robots replacing musicians. Having decided this, I wanted to produce a seven-minute documentary for Radio 1 Stories. However, I discovered that Greg James had already explored this concept back in April 2017. He produced a documentary for both TV and Radio titled Can A Robot Replace Ed Sheeran?

As a result I decided to change my angle and instead focus on what impact Artificial Intelligence (A.I.) is going to have on the music industry. Based on my initial research I then chose three case studies to focus on in my documentary.

I plan to contact and collaborate with AI. Music, Amper Music and Jukedeck. Both AI. Music and Jukedeck are based in London, UK, while Amper is based in the United States. As a result it is my intention to conduct my interviews with both the UK companies in person at their offices and to speak to those at Amper via Skype.

At this stage I have several ideas and concepts that I could potentially explore, including the threat the use of A.I. to create music poses to composers and DJs and the loss of exposure and revenue which artists could have obtained through having their songs feature on TV and online adverts.

I could also explore the concept that engineers and programmers working for these companies could be seen as musicians, if not now, then for certain in the future.

My plan now is to refine my ideas, contact my case studies and prepare for my pitch on Monday 23rd October.
